Still speaking about term of Management Information System. This case has background of my confusion to understand term of Management Information System and Information System. Even now the writer often read term of Computer Information System.
In this article, still focused on term of Management Information System. There is no consensus to definition of Management Information System (Davis & Olson 1984: 5). In the book, stated that Management Information System is sometimes called by other terms, such as “information processing system”, “information and decision system”, “organizational information system”, or “information system” that refers to computer-based information processing system that supports operations, management, and decision-making functions in an organization.
Therefore, Management Information System (MIS) is integrated user-machine providing information to support operation, management, and decision-making functions (Davis & Olson 1984: 6).
The definition above is in line with a Febrian’s Dictionary (2004: 286) that MIS is collection of human and resources.
It can be understood that MIS includes computer system and human. How about term of Information System, does it include computer system and human too? In the meantime, students of Information System department or Informatics Management often use term of Information System as complement for title of their thesis, for example: New Students Registration Information System, correct?
Hopefully it can be discussed in other article.
